A steel column terminates onto a steel base plate that rests directly on the top flange of a supporting steel beam. A steel beam web stiffener plate is aligned below the column load path on each side of the beam web to prevent local web yielding and buckling. The column base plate is secured using anchor bolts or connecting fasteners running through the beam flange.
