This assembly connects hollow structural section beams to a wide flange column using a bolted plate connection. The connection utilizes three 3/4-inch diameter A325N bolts centered within a 3 1/2-inch long slotted hole in the connection plate to allow for thermal expansion or structural movement. All ends of the hollow structural section members must be sealed, including galvanizing drainage holes, to prevent water intrusion. If the connection occurs at the end of a column, the column must be capped with a 3/8-inch thick cap plate secured with a 1/4-inch fillet weld all around.
