A concrete slab-on-grade control joint features smooth dowels measuring three-quarters of an inch in diameter by fourteen inches long at twelve inches on center. The dowels are centered on the control joint line, placed horizontally and perpendicular to it, with one end greased and held in place using dowel racks or chairs. A top sawcut extending to one-third of the slab thickness is to be performed within twelve hours of the concrete pour. Slab reinforcement is terminated one and a half inches from the sawcut, and typical slab reinforcement and subgrade are sized per plan and soils report.
