A tension rod splice connection utilizes two parallel strand lumber members tied across a channel blocking assembly. A one-inch diameter ASTM F1554 Grade 36 tension rod transfers a twenty-nine kip load through a one-inch by nine and five-eighths inch by one-foot one-inch steel end plate. The assembly features MC13x31.8 steel channels on both sides, secured with heavy hex nuts and washers. One-half inch oversized holes at the ends accommodate installation tolerances without double nuts, alongside one-eighth inch oversized holes. Eight quarter-inch by three-inch self-drilling wood screws at three inches on center are fastened to each flange, while two rows of thirty-five ten-penny box nails run along each parallel strand lumber at the channel blocking.
