An HSS column is capped with a 1/4-inch plate secured by a seam weld, with a 3/8-inch by 6-inch by 0'-7" plate on each side of the HSS. Two 7/8-inch diameter A449 through-bolts fasten the assembly in vertical laminated strand lumber, installed finger-tight with grease plies. A 1-inch clearance is maintained at the connection, with typical 1/4-inch fillet welds specified.
