A grounding electrode conductor connects to a reinforcing bar or rod embedded inside a concrete foundation in direct contact with the earth. The electrode consists of a bare copper conductor, steel reinforcing bar, or rod not less than 1/2 inch in diameter and at least 20 feet long. An exothermic weld joins the conductor to the reinforcing bar. A PVC-80 sleeve protects the grounding electrode conductor where it exits the concrete. The electrode maintains a minimum two-inch concrete cover from the earth interface.
