This structural steel connection details a beam framing into a column flange at the top of a column. A cap plate tops the column, with its thickness sized as the greater of flange thickness TF1 plus one-quarter inch or flange thickness TF2 plus one-quarter inch, with a one-inch minimum. The cap plate is welded to the top and bottom flanges with typical moment connection welds. Continuity plates are installed inside the column web, using the larger of TF1 or TF2. Shear tabs are provided on the column flanges where beams occur to complete the framing connection.
