A continuous hollow structural section member, designated as HSS6x4 flat, features a one-inch continuous cut at the center of the near side web to allow horizontal drift. A 3/8-inch steel plate is placed at the center of the hollow structural section tube with a horizontal slot measuring 1/2-inch high. Two 1/2-inch diameter ASTM A307 bolts with nuts secure the assembly through the slot at a four-inch spacing with 1 1/2-inch end distances from center.
