Post-tensioned concrete beams require careful placement of utility penetrations to avoid damaging internal tendons and reinforcement. A shaded allowable penetration zone is restricted to the middle portion of the clear span, located away from the high-stress end regions spanning one-quarter of the clear length. All beam penetrations must be lined with Schedule 40 steel pipe inserts and framed by post-tensioned tendons spaced a minimum of four times the pipe diameter apart, with twice the diameter spacing maintained between individual pipes. Continuous bottom reinforcement and continuous top reinforcement run the length of the member as specified in the structural plans.
