A wide-flange beam connects to a wide-flange steel column using a three-eighths-inch thick shear plate welded to the column flange with a five-sixteenths-inch fillet weld on three sides at the extended plate. Erection bolts secure the beam web to the shear plate as required. An extended shear plate is used where indicated with an asterisk on the plan. A maximum three-quarter-inch clearance is maintained between the beam end and the column face, with an eight-inch dimension indicating the layout spacing.
