A structural steel plate of thickness t passes through a centered slot in a hollow structural section member. The slot width is sized to plate thickness plus one-sixteenth of an inch with equal spacing on either side. The rounded slot end diameter matches the slot width, positioned within a maximum two-inch distance from the member termination.
