An existing HSS hollow structural section pipe column bears on a base plate atop an existing concrete footing. An added eight-inch concrete topping layer reinforced with number five bars at twelve inches each way ties into the existing footing using fifty number three epoxy dowels with twelve-inch embeds. A one-inch gusset plate connects diagonal bracing to the assembly. The existing pipe column is filled with concrete.
