A concrete pier terminates at a grade beam or slab with standard ninety-degree hook dowels matching the vertical pier reinforcing. The vertical reinforcing bars are designated as reinforcement A and B with a specified pier length and three-inch clear cover. Upper ties or spirals C and D are detailed per the schedule, maintaining specified clearances from the top of the pier to the bottom of the bar. Lap splices or mechanical couplers are provided as required for the total pier length. Standard notes guide the staggering of dowels and reference mat elevations.
