The gas supply line enters through a ball valve before connecting to a tee fitting. The branch of the tee directs flow to the appliance, while the bottom of the tee connects to a nipple and a threaded cap to form a sediment trap, also known as a dirt leg. The sediment trap requires a minimum length of 6 inches to effectively collect debris from the gas stream. All components are threaded to ensure a secure, airtight connection within the gas distribution system.
