Seismic restraint and wall anchorage assembly for water heaters mounted against a gypsum wallboard partition over a concrete slab. Unistrut P1000 1-5/8 inch by 1-5/8 inch metal channels span horizontally behind the tanks, secured to wall backing with number 14 by 3 inch long screws with washers. Perforated metal straps measuring 1 inch by 22 gauge wrap around the water heater tanks and attach to the Unistrut channels using 1/2 inch by 1-3/16 inch machine bolts with channel nuts. Additional U-fittings fastened with 1/2 inch by 1-3/16 inch machine bolts into channel nuts resist sliding forces at the framing connections. Upper straps are positioned as high as possible approximately 15 inches from the top, while lower straps are placed as low as possible while maintaining access to the cleanout approximately 18 inches above the finished floor.
