A vertical pipe riser penetrates the floor construction with a one-inch nominal clearance and is supported by a pipe riser clamp resting on steel shims and a three-quarter-inch thick forty-durometer neoprene waffle pad. The annular space around the pipe is packed with safing batt insulation and backer rod, then sealed airtight with acoustical or fire-rated caulk. Piping must be located with a one-and-a-half-inch minimum clearance from gypsum board.
