A hollow structural section column is centered on a 1-inch by 20-inch by 1-foot 8-inch steel base plate secured by four AB-1 anchor bolts. Four 5/8-inch plates are positioned around the column perimeter with a 1/8-inch clearance gap. The column connects to the plates with a 1/4-inch fillet weld centered on four sides. The plates connect to the base plate with a 1/4-inch fillet weld.
