An existing hollow structural section pipe column is prepared for concrete fill by cleaning the interior and top of the base plate prior to placement. Cleanout access holes are provided on the north and south sides of the column base. The interior of the pipe column is filled with four thousand PSI concrete to a height of six feet, with an additional access hole provided higher up along the column shaft.
