A backwater valve is installed on the plumbing line below grade, featuring a cast iron housing and a backwater valve mechanism at the lower portion. A cast iron ferrule with a bronze plug sits within the upper housing. The entire assembly is capped with a ductile iron cover and cast iron housing labeled with "BACKWATER VALVE" on top. A six-inch concrete ring with a bevel top surrounds the housing in landscape areas and lawns when not located in a street.
