An underground utility trench is excavated into undisturbed earth and backfilled with compacted material matching adjacent soil conditions. A sand bedding layer is hand tamped in six-inch layers to twelve inches above the top and simultaneously on all sides of the pipes to maintain uniform pressure. The trench accommodates a new gas pipe, nitrous oxide and oxygen pipes inside polyethylene plastic pipe conduits, and fuel oil piping, maintaining specified minimum horizontal clearances and code-required burial depths.
