An insulated carrier pipe is suspended from overhead using an adjustable clevis hanger. Rigid pipe insulation is installed directly at the support point to prevent crushing of the thermal insulation. A twenty-two gauge sheet metal insulation shield, eighteen inches long, wraps the lower section of the insulation within the clevis loop to distribute the load and protect the jacket.
