The assembly consists of a steel pipe column supporting a head member, with the connection facilitated by a centered knife plate. The knife plate thickness is defined as the greater of three-eighths inch or the pipe wall thickness, and it is welded to the column and the underside of the head with five-eighths inch fillet welds on all sides. A one-quarter inch cap plate is provided at the top of the column, welded on the near side and far side. The column base rests on a one-inch grout pad above the base plate. The pipe connection at the head is indicated as being provided by others.
