The gas supply line enters through a ball valve before connecting to a tee fitting. The branch of the tee directs flow to the appliance, while the bottom of the tee connects to a threaded nipple and a cap to form a sediment trap. This dirt leg requires a minimum length of six inches to effectively collect debris and moisture from the gas stream.
