An existing W21x62 steel beam frames into a supporting new W18x97 wide-flange beam using a 3/8-inch bent plate. The bent plate provides a three-inch minimum bearing seat beneath the supported beam flange and is welded to the supporting beam top flange with a 5/16-inch fillet weld. A 1/4-inch fillet weld secures the bent plate to the supported beam web. Grid lines B and E establish the structural alignment.
