Installation method for connecting a hanger rod to an insert rod using an electro-galvanized steel rod coupling conforming to ASTM B633 SC1. To achieve proper thread engagement, measure the length of the rod coupling, divide by two, and add one-eighth inch to establish the marking depth. Mark the hanger rod at this calculated length with a permanent marker to guarantee fifty-percent depth upon threading. Thread the coupling onto the hanger rod up to the measured mark, leaving the mark exposed for visual verification. Thread the hanger rod and coupling assembly onto the insert anchor rod until both rod ends contact each other internally within the middle of the coupling. Final tightening is achieved by gripping the threaded rods just below and above the coupling with channel-lock pliers and turning until locked.
1/2 COUPLING LENGTH + 1/8" NOTES: UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED: 1. MEASURE THE LENGTH OF THE ROD COUPLING AND DIVIDE THE LENGTH BY TWO TO OBTAIN THE HALF LENGTH OF THE ROD COUPLING. ADD 1/8" TO THE HALF LENGTH OF THE ROD COUPLING. MARK THE COMBINED LENGTH FROM THE END OF THE HANGER ROD WITH A PERMANENT MARKER TO ACHIEVE 50% DEPTH OF THE COUPLING WHEN THREADED ONTO THE ROD. 2. THREAD COUPLING ONTO HANGER ROD UP TO THE MEASURED MARK ON THE HANGER ROD, LEAVING THE MARK EXPOSED. 3. THREAD THE HANGER ROD/COUPLING ASSEMBLY ON TO THE INSERT/ANCHOR ROD UNTIL THE HANGER ROD END CONTACTS THE INSERT/ANCHOR ROD END WITHIN THE COUPLING. 4. FINAL TIGHTENING IS ACHIEVED BY GRASPING THE THREADED RODS/INSERTS JUST BELOW AND ABOVE THE COUPLING WITH CHANNEL-LOCK PLIERS AND TURNING UNTIL LOCKED. 5. PROPER DEPTH IS VERIFIED BY CHECKING THE MARK ON THE THREADS OF THE HANGER ROD WHICH IS VISIBLE OUTSIDE THE ROD COUPLING.
