Floor joists are sized and spaced per plan and support the sub-floor sheathing above. Each four-foot by eight-foot sheet spans a minimum of three bearings with face grain oriented perpendicular to the framing. Intermediate nailing secures the panels along intermediate supports, and edges of floor openings are boundary nailed. Two-by solid blocking is provided between floor joists at a maximum of eight feet on center where two-by wood joists occur, with three-by-four flat blocking using Simpson Z hangers at each end. Double joists occur under all parallel partitions, and two-by full blocking is provided under all perpendicular partitions. Where a second layer of sheathing occurs, joists are staggered in both directions.
