A foundation ductile iron pipe enters the building below grade with a minimum bury of five feet, turning upward via a mechanical joint elbow supported by a concrete thrust block with three square feet of bearing surface. Five-eighths-inch tie rods secure the pipe to the mechanical joint below and are coated with asphalt mastic to prevent corrosion. The vertical pipe rises through the building interior, passing through a ten-inch diameter sleeve in the concrete floor slab with a ten-inch flange at the top.
