A snowmelt pipe loops downward into a sand bed to cross a major concrete expansion or control joint. The pipe runs beneath the concrete pavement and wire mesh, passing over a layer of two-inch heavy-duty extruded polystyrene insulation. The entire assembly rests upon a compacted base.
