A duct penetrates a non-rated wall opening with a clearance of one inch plus or minus one quarter inch on both sides. The annular space is packed with one-inch safing batt insulation, backed by a foam backer rod, and finished with acoustical sealant on both sides. The duct is held in place by supports spaced four to eight inches typically.
