An insulated duct passes through a wall opening where a fire damper is not required. A vapor barrier seal is applied at the penetration for non-rated walls, while a fire stopping seal is used for rated walls. The combination of sealant, backing material, and insulation must meet the required fire rating when penetrating rated assemblies.
