A three-quarter-inch cold water supply line enters from the water service, passes through a water service union, wall support, and a water meter before branching. The main line incorporates a three-quarter-inch reduced pressure principle backflow preventer with an air gap and pipe to drain, as well as a downstream drain valve with a hose end with vacuum breaker. An expansion tank connects to the upper branch along with a relief valve set at one hundred pounds per square inch gauge with full-size discharge to drain and a capped drain. A shut-off valve on the supply line is set to the open position with its handle removed and hung adjacent to the valve. The expansion tank must be charged prior to connecting it to the system, with the charge matching the site water pressure.
