A duct penetrates a partition leaving a gap packed with glass fiber insulation through the full depth of the partition. Sheetmetal safing of minimum twenty-two gauge is secured to the partition around the duct when the gap exceeds one-half inch. Airtight caulk is applied all around the penetration with a maximum one-half inch tolerance.
