This assembly features a combination fire and smoke damper installed within a smoke and fire rated partition. The damper frame is housed within a factory sleeve, which is secured to the partition using minimum 1-1/2 inch by 1-1/2 inch 16-gauge steel retaining angles on all sides. These angles overlap the wall by at least 1 inch and are fastened to the sleeve with number 10 screws spaced at 8 inches on center. The retaining angles are not anchored to the wall to allow for expansion clearance. A breakaway duct connection is required at a minimum of 6 inches away from the wall face. The assembly includes an electronic reset link with a manual reset button, a heat switch, and an auxiliary operating jack shaft, with a 12 inch by 12 inch access door provided for maintenance. Caulking material is applied at the interface, and metal stud walls require picture frame framing around the opening per SMACNA guidelines.
