The venturi meter is installed in a straight run of piping with specific upstream and downstream clearances for valid pressure drop readings. A minimum straight pipe distance of seven pipe diameters is required upstream of the venturi, along with a minimum of four pipe diameters downstream. The direction of water flow must match the indicated arrow, and the venturi must be positioned to allow unobstructed access to the read-out hose attachment.
