A hollow structural section beam connects to a supporting member with a one-inch typical clearance maintained and a maximum one-half-inch gap. A one-quarter-inch cap plate is welded to the end of the hollow structural section beam using one-quarter-inch fillet welds. Angle members measuring L4x4x3/8 are placed on each side of the hollow structural section beam and secured with one-quarter-inch fillet welds.
