A rectangular or round duct passes through an opening in a drywall partition framed with metal studs, centered within a minimum 22-gauge sheet metal sleeve. The perimeter gap around the duct is maintained at 1/4 inch and is filled with backer rod and acoustical sealant on both sides. A minimum 22-gauge sheet metal angle ring is secured to the sleeve, and the annular space is packed with fiberglass insulation. Duct insulation and duct liner are installed where required.
