A spiral wound galvanized steel duct with a maximum twenty-inch diameter penetrates a one or two-hour fire-rated gypsum wallboard assembly constructed per Underwriters Laboratories U400 or V400 series designs. The assembly accommodates a maximum twenty-inch diameter number twenty-eight gauge spiral wound galvanized steel duct wrapped in two-inch maximum glass fiber insulation. An annular space ranging from zero to two inches surrounds the duct and is sealed with a minimum five-eighths inch bead of specified STI SSS or LCI firestop sealant on each side. The penetration follows Specific Technologies Inc system number W-L-7179 for one or two-hour firestop ratings.
