An acoustic return elbow silencer is mounted to a lay-in or surface-mounted return air register penetrating a ceiling. The inside dimensions of the elbow match the neck size of the return air register, and the plenum side of the register is insulated. The elbow features a one-inch thick acoustic semi-rigid liner on interior surfaces with a minimum two-foot dimension and a twelve-inch minimum clearance. Plan view dimensions indicate inside clear measurements between walls lined with one-inch duct liner on all sides.
