A smoke damper or combination fire and smoke damper is installed within a smoke or fire/smoke rated barrier. A damper actuator connects to the damper mechanism. An access door is positioned at the side or bottom of the duct for optimal access to the damper and smoke detector. A smoke detector provided by the electrical contractor is installed within five feet maximum of the damper assembly. The fire damper must be installed as required by the manufacturer to achieve the required Underwriters Laboratories listing.
