A horizontal duct, pipe, or conduit passes through a sound-rated wall assembly with a quarter-inch clearance maintained around the penetration. Acoustical sealant is applied at both sides of the wall junction to seal the annular space. Hanger supports are positioned four to eight inches away on both sides of the wall. The assembly applies to sound-rated construction including interior insulated assemblies for services three inches in diameter or less.
