A garage exhaust fan mounts within a seventy-two-inch by seventy-two-inch wall blockout opening in a concrete masonry unit shaft wall. The assembly includes a wall collar secured to the wall using corrosion-resistant fasteners spaced six to ten inches around the perimeter, with sealant applied between the collar and the concrete masonry unit shaft wall. A backdraft damper attaches to the exterior side of the wall opening, while a wire guard protects the fan intake on the interior side.
