A mechanical duct penetrates a non-rated partition with a continuous one-inch clearance maintained around the perimeter. The annular space is packed with one-inch safing insulation backed by foam backer rods on both sides. Acoustical sealant is applied at the exterior joints of the penetration on four to eight inches typically on both sides. Duct supports are installed adjacent to the partition to secure the ductwork.
