A venturi meter is installed in a straight pipe run to maintain unobstructed access to the read-out hose attachment. The upstream side requires a minimum straight pipe distance of seven pipe diameters, while the downstream side requires a minimum of four pipe diameters. Water flows in the indicated direction to ensure a valid pressure drop reading.
