The subbase consists of a compacted base supporting a layer of two-inch heavy-duty extruded polystyrene insulation. Oxygen-barrier PEX snowmelt tubing is secured to wire mesh using wire ties. Concrete pavement is cast over the insulation and tubing assembly, embedding the heating loops.
