The diesel generator exhaust pipe routes through the roof via a ventilated NFPA-approved roof thimble sealed with flash and counter flashing. An exhaust muffler is suspended from the structure above using five-eighth-inch diameter rods with optional vibration isolation, and hangers may require rollers to accommodate pipe expansion. The horizontal run features a drip leg with a valved hose connection and cap matching the main exhaust pipe diameter, pitched down for drainage. Clearances maintain a minimum distance of six inches from combustible wall materials, and terminations include a bird screen with a minimum quarter-inch mesh cut off at a 45-degree angle alongside a flapper valve and rain cap.
