An approved green plastic round valve box with a locking cover marked with two-inch white letters reading G.V. encloses the gate valve assembly. The gate valve connects to the PVC mainline via a brass union, typical brass nipple, and PVC adapter. The entire box rests on a one cubic foot bed of pea gravel supported by two-by-four redwood blocks or brick. Valves up to two inches in diameter require malleable iron tee handles, while valves larger than two inches require square operating nuts.
