Logs and boulders are placed within excavated areas over a sand subgrade with surface material consisting of sand. The excavation depth accommodates varying log and boulder sizes, with ends of logs buried one-third to one-half of their height and exposed one-half of their height. Plant areas are provided with topsoil in excavated pockets within the sand surface. Placement of logs and boulders requires field approval by the owner's representative prior to backfilling.
