The planting pit is excavated to twice the width of the rootball into undisturbed subgrade with scarified sides and bottom. The tree is positioned with the root crown set two inches above finish grade. Three fertilizer tablets are spaced triangularly within the amended backfill surrounding the rootball. A three-inch hand-shaped topsoil berm or continuous backfill basin is formed at the surface, topped with a three-inch mulch layer. Installation notes require removing the container before planting, compacting soil around the rootball, and thoroughly soaking the plant with a fine mist after installation.
