A six-inch wide wood edge block rests on a steel plate and is secured with wood screws, maintaining a butt joint aligned with the centerline between wood deck planks at approximately three-foot spacing. The wood blocking bears above a one-eighth-inch continuous steel restraint edge and a two-inch square hollow structural section. The steel edge is bolted directly to the underlying concrete footing.
