A cast-in-place structural concrete mow strip is bedded on a six-inch depth of three-quarter-inch gravel tamped into the prepared sub-grade. The assembly separates turf on one side from amended soil finished with bark or stone mulch over weed barrier fabric on the other. Positive drainage is maintained around the mow strip to avoid creating a dam effect, allowing a maximum one-half-inch width variation.
